Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating Canadian Gold Medallists at the Snowboarding World Cup

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 29, 2009) - Three Canadian snowboarders have won gold medals at the World Cup event in Telluride, Colorado.

On December 15, Matthew Morison won gold at the World Cup Parallel Giant Slalom event and on December 17, Jasey-Jay Anderson won gold. On December 19, Maelle Ricker won gold in snowboard cross.

Sport is a defining part of Canada's identity. Every gold medal won by our Canadian athletes brings us together in celebration and pride and inspires all Canadians to strive to be their very best.

Our Government recognizes the hard work and dedication of our athletes.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Government of Canada, and all Canadians, I would like to heartily congratulate Matthew Morison, Jasey-Jay Anderson and Maelle Ricker on their gold-medal performances at the Snowboarding World Cup. We are all proud of your tremendous achievement.
