Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), on the Occasion of Physical Education Day on the Hill

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 4, 2009) -

It is my pleasure to recognize Physical Education Day on the Hill, which highlights the importance of physical activity and emphasizes the importance of physical education in Canada.

The Government of Canada believes physical activity has an important role to play in the lives of our youth and recognizes the need to engage all Canadians in active living. There are many simple ways for Canadians of all ages to be active and healthy, and our Government is taking action to encourage Canadians to live healthy lives by supporting important programs like ParticipACTION and establishing the Children's Fitness Tax Credit for Canadian families.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I want to commend everyone involved with Physical and Health Education Canada for their efforts to encourage young Canadians to get active and involved with sport. I also want to congratulate all the students who are participating in Physical Education Day on the Hill. Keep up the great work!
