Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), on the Recent Evaluation of Toronto's Bid to Host the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 1, 2009) -

The Government of Canada is proud to support Ontario's bid to host the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games. We are pleased to be working with Ontario, the Greater Golden Horseshoe region, the City of Toronto, and the Bid Corporation to ensure a successful outcome.

These Games would bring important sport, economic, cultural, and social benefits to the host region, and indeed to all of Canada. This investment would result in a legacy of infrastructure, community, sport and economic development for generations of Canadians. It would also further the development of sport in this country by providing our athletes and coaches with the training and competition experience they need to excel on the world stage.

The proposed venues and facilities for the 2015 Games have definitely created a lasting impression on the Pan American Sports Organization's Evaluation Commission. Our concerted efforts to present a strong bid show that we are more than ready to stage exceptional Pan American and Parapan American Games in Ontario.

As the Minister of State for Sport, I'm excited about the possibility of welcoming the Americas to these Games, and on behalf of the Government of Canada, I want to thank the Toronto 2015 Bid Corporation and all parties involved for their efforts to win the bid.
