Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Death of David Pecaut

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 14, 2009) - It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of David Pecaut.

Mr. Pecaut was instrumental in forging relations between the social, economic, and cultural sectors in an effort to make Toronto, and indeed Canada, a better place. As a member of the Toronto City Summit Alliance, he worked to rejuvenate tourism in the wake of SARS in 2003. He was part of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council, which created many mentoring partnerships and internships for people newly arrived in Canada with no Canadian job experience. As well, he was one of the co-founders and co-chairs of Luminato, a wonderful arts festival that in just three short years has become one of Canada's premier cultural events.

I join with Canadians in expressing my deepest sympathy to Mr. Pecaut's family and friends.
