Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 31st Gala de l'ADISQ

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 1, 2009) - Music is an integral part of any culture. The Canadian music industry takes its vitality from the wealth and diversity of our heritage and it serves as a reflection of today's society.

Our Government recognizes the importance of creativity and innovation not only for the vitality of Canadian culture, but also for our economic growth. We have recently renewed the budget for the Canada Music Fund for five years in order to ensure long-term stability for this sector. Our Government is proud to support these awards, which recognizes artists who have made their mark through the quality and originality of their performances.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate the winners and nominees of the 31st Gala de l'ADISQ who work tirelessly to create their musical works for the benefit of all Canadians.
