Statement by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 7, 2008) - The Honourable Josee Verner issued the following statement today on the death of two Canadian soldiers:

"I extend my deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Warrant Officer Hani Massouh and Corporal Eric Labbe, who died yesterday in a tragic vehicle accident in Afghanistan. The hard work and commitment of these dedicated soldiers helped bring peace and stability to a country much in need of these things. As Canadians, we are indebted to these men for the work they did on our behalf."

Warrant Officer Hani Massouh and Corporal Eric Labbe were members of 2e Bataillon, Royal 22e Regiment, based out of Valcartier, Quebec.
