Statement: Minister Day Expresses Support for Communities Affected by Tropical Storm Noel

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 4, 2007) - The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today:

"It has been a difficult period for the people in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec because of Tropical Storm Noel. In the wake of the storm we have seen the tremendous character of our communities as neighbours are helping neighbours in the best spirit of Canadians.

I know that first responders and volunteers are on the scene doing a tremendous job with the support of local officials and the provinces. The Government of Canada stands ready to respond on an immediate basis should the province deem such assistance necessary. Furthermore, we will ensure that any provincial request for financial assistance will be handled without delay.

Our thoughts are with the people dealing with the aftermath of the storm. While the storm has done its worst, it has brought out the best in the people throughout the area."
