Statement: Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day Comments on RCMP Arrests in Truro, Nova Scotia

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 26, 2007) - Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released this statement following the arrest by the RCMP of several individuals for distributing and selling drugs and illegal cigarettes in Colchester County, Nova Scotia.

"I would like to commend the RCMP Criminal Operations units in Truro, Halifax, Moncton and Bible Hill, as well as the Integrated Proceeds of Crime section - all of whom played a vital role in today's arrest. I would also like to thank the Truro Police Service and Halifax Regional Police, which partnered with the RCMP throughout the investigation.

Their dedication and hard work, following a successful nine month investigation, have led to today's results.

Everyday, Canadians across the country see first hand the terrible damage that drug-use can do to individuals and families. These arrests will help prevent our children and families from being torn apart by the harmful effects of drug use.

Today's operation is yet another example of the high standards of professionalism demonstrated day in and day out by Canada's police officers."
