PERFORMANCE REVIEW TO 30 SEPTEMBER 2008

St Helen's Private Equity plc, the 'SmallCap'. Pre-IPO and Special Situations investment company,
is disappointed to report on the performance of the Company for the Quarter ended 30 September
2008.

The information has been compiled by SHPE on the bases of the details available. The figures are
based on Year End results audited by the Company's Auditors.

COMMENTARY

This Quarter witnessed one of the most dramatic losses of investor confidence in a generation. The
sentiment for small companies was particularly poor with the AIM UK 50 and AIM All-share indices
falling by 42.80% and 35.30% respectively. In line with these falls the SHPE NAV per share
declined by 36.64% during the same period.

The weak financial markets have resulted in two major impacts for SHPE. Firstly, the increasing
difficulty of fundraising has led to a dramatic reduction in the number of investment
opportunities, a situation we expect to be shortlived as the market adjusts to the new economic
outlook. Secondly, IPO and Trade sales have become more difficult which means that the main exit
routes for investments are almost non-existent at present, a situation we hope which will begin to
reverse during next year. As a result, no investments were exited or made during the Quarter.
