Stk'emlupsemc: Chiefs Sign Historic Revenue Sharing Agreement With BC

KAMLOOPS, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2010) - Chief Shane Gottfriedson of the Tk'emlups Indian Band and Chief Rick Deneault of the Skeetchestn Indian Band today signed a historic Economic and Community Development Agreement between the Stk'emlupsemc Te Secwepemc and the Province of British Columbia.

In March 2008, the Stk'emlupsemc signed a Participation Agreement with New Gold Inc. on the New Afton Mine. Then in April 2009, the Stk'emlupsemc signed a Mining and Minerals Agreement with BC in which the Parties agreed to a process for managing a key resource sector on the Stk'emlupsemc Territory.

"On the eve of our celebration of the 1910 Memorial to Sir Wilfred Laurier, we sign this agreement in the spirit of sharing that our Chiefs spoke of 100 years ago," said Chief Shane Gottfriedson of the Tk'emlups Indian Band. "While this agreement is specifically for the Mine Tax for the New Afton Mine located on our Territory, we look forward to a more comprehensive agreement on all revenues generated by such projects," he said.

"This agreement compliments the work we did on two previous agreements the Participation Agreement we signed with New Gold Inc. and the Mining and Minerals Agreement we signed with BC," said Chief Rick Deneault of the Skeetchestn Indian Band. "We will work hard to build on these agreements so that we can fulfill the objectives outlined in the 1910 Memorial to Sir Wilfred Laurier," he said.
