Stratus Technologies, SanDisk and Dot Hill Combine to Deliver Superior Uptime Assurance for Mission-Critical Computing and Storage

SanDisk Lightning SSD Chosen for Stratus ftScalable G2 Storage

MAYNARD, MA--(Marketwire - Jun 5, 2012) - The SanDisk® Lightning® Enterprise Solid State Drives (SSDs), a new class of ultra-high performance SAS SSDs, are now offered in Stratus ftScalable™ G2 Storage, a fault-tolerant array manufactured for Stratus by Dot Hill. The Stratus array connects to the entire fault-tolerant ftServer system line, providing customers with industry-leading uptime assurance for servers and storage.

SanDisk Lightning SSDs are equipped with exceptional reliability and endurance features, as well as powerful performance, that complement Stratus's stringent requirements for uptime assurance solutions. Customers select Stratus' resilient software and hardware products, with proactive remote monitoring and management technology, to protect mission-critical applications, such as payments processing and other high-volume transaction workloads, healthcare systems, emergency dispatch, virtualization and cloud computing, for example.

"SanDisk Lightning Enterprise SSDs have been specifically designed to deliver high sustained I/O performance with predictable response times in demanding, 24/7, transaction-intensive environments," said Greg Goelz, SanDisk vice president and general manager, Enterprise Storage Solutions. "The partnership with Stratus is ideal in that our mutual goal is to protect customers with mission-critical applications."

The Stratus ftScalable G2 storage array is ideally suited as an SSD platform. High-speed 8Gb fibre channel or 10GbiSCSI host connection and 6Gb SAS backend maximize the performance benefits of the drives, while the patented DupliCache™ technology dramatically improves write performance. Numerous availability enhancements, such as hot spares and redundant, hot-plug components, protect mission-critical data stored on the SanDisk drives, while support for both solid state and spinning media allow the configuration to optimize performance based upon data usage patterns.

"Performance, reliability, and speed are essential system features for ensuring that our customers' critical workloads receive the highest levels of uptime assurance possible," said Dave LeClair, director of product management & marketing at Stratus. "We are fortunate to have partners such as Dot Hill and SanDisk that excel at designing and manufacturing products that deliver these qualities at levels far above the norm."

Stratus solutions consistently deliver the industry's highest levels of availability. Currently its global installed base of ftServer systems is operating at nearly 99.9999 percent uptime reliability, or approximately 31 seconds of downtime annually per server. The many transaction processing and message switching applications for which Stratus systems and its partners' product are used cannot tolerate latency issues, slow response, downtime, data loss or failover scenarios typical of competitors' availability offerings.
