Strengthening Quebec-Ontario Trade

MONTREAL, QUEBEC and TORONTO, ONTARIO-—(Marketwire – Dec. 20, 2007) - The Federation des chambres de commerce du Quebec (FCCQ) and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce have strengthened their collaboration in order to improve and inform talks between their respective governments. Quebec Premier Jean Charest and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty signed a joint trade agreement on November 26, 2007.

"We want to pool our efforts to open up avenues for reflection by the governments and suggest concrete steps for promoting trade between the two provinces," emphasized Francoise Bertrand, President and CEO of the FCCQ.

Like the talks undertaken by the Ontario and Quebec governments, the initiative of the two organizations is aimed at eliminating trade barriers and improving labour mobility, measures that are sure to have an impact on reducing costs and enhancing business productivity.

"By ensuring our governments are aware of the challenges and issues facing our members, as well as some potential solutions, we hope to make their deliberations more meaningful" explains Len Crispino, President & CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce

A formal agreement will be signed by the Federation des chambres de commerce du Quebec (FCCQ) and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce in early 2008 to lay the groundwork for cooperation between the two organizations.
