Leading Provider of Enterprise Open Source Solutions Reports New Customer Adoption Up 150% From Year-Ago Period

New customer adoption is up 150% from the same period last year bolstered by increased demand for the company's enterprise-class open source solutions. Covalent signed more than 100 new and repeat customers, including Zions Bank, Indiana University, and British Telecom, expanded into the Asia-Pacific marketplace, and launched ERS 3.0, the latest version of the company's flagship Web infrastructure solution. In addition, Covalent sponsored the future leaders of open source with the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), formed the Covalent Certified Partners Program, and announced more than a dozen new partners and strategic relationships with the likes of ActiveGrid, JBoss, Tibco Software, Novell, and Computer Associates.

Strong Global Enterprise Adoption for Open Source Solutions

Corporations, government agencies, and universities are embracing open-source technologies in order to build the flexibility and speed necessary to meet the changing needs of internal and external customers as well as reduce the complexities and costs associated with managing mixed-source enterprise Web infrastructures. For the first six months of 2005, Covalent signed more than 100 new and repeat customers, including: Zions Bank, Indiana University, British Telecom, Boehringer-Ingleheim, The Walt Disney Company, Fuji Film, SunTrust Capital, GE Asset Management, Federal Tax & Trade Bureau, State of California, Siemens AG, TIAA-CREF, Alltel, University of Southern California, Pfizer, Pacific Life Insurance, GlaxoSmithKline, and Dial Corporation, among others. In addition, Covalent is reaping rewards from Red Hat's announced "end-of life" for its Enterprise Stronghold Apache Solutions. Red Hat Stronghold Enterprise for Unix customers, including UNICEF, Archipelago Holdings, and the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), are migrating to Covalent's Enterprise Ready Server™ as an alternative.

Expanded Presence in Asia-Pacific Marketplace

Covalent entered into a strategic partnership with Sumisho Computer Systems Corporation (SCS), a leading systems integrator based in Tokyo, Japan. Under terms of the agreement, SCS will market and distribute Covalent's open source solutions to its enterprise customers in the Pacific Rim. Covalent, in turn, will provide SCS with comprehensive Level 3 service and support for the Apache HTTP Web Server and the Apache Tomcat Application Server.

New Version of Flagship Enterprise Server

Enterprise Ready Server (ERS) 3.0 is a new version of Covalent's widely distributed Web infrastructure stack in Fortune 500 enterprises. The most comprehensive enterprise solution for Apache Web server management, ERS 3.0 unites Apache 2.0 and 1.3 Web servers into a single package for the first time; includes two releases of Apache Tomcat for customers to mix and match Apache and Tomcat versions to suit their needs; and supports FTP and PHP.

Strategic Partnerships with JBoss and Sleepycat Software

Covalent and JBoss, Inc. announced an agreement to extend JBoss Professional Support to the Apache Web Server, the most widely deployed web server in Fortune 500 enterprises. JBoss customers deploying JBoss Application Server and Apache Tomcat can take advantage of production support for Apache Web Server through Covalent Technologies. Covalent also announced a technology partnership with Sleepycat Software to enhance customers' web experience by increasing the speed, performance and flexibility of Covalent's Enterprise Ready Server through integration with Sleepycat's Berkeley DB database.
