Strong Support for Spain in the World Cup Betting at Victor Chandler

GIBRALTAR, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 9, 2009) - Sports bookmakers Victor Chandler have reported strong support for Spain in the latest World Cup betting. Spain have accounted for 52% of all bets placed since last Friday's draw, with England the next most popular team with 18% of bets. Following this, are Brazil with 14% of bets and Holland with 9%. The remaining 28 nations account for only 7% of bets since the draw.

Victor Chandler, Chairman commented: "I tipped Spain to win the Euro Championships two years ago but I don't fancy them for this World Cup and that's why I'm still top price at 9/2 about Spain in the outright market. I think England have a fantastic chance under Fabio Cappello, they deserve to be near the top of the betting"

Spain have been placed in group H alongside Switzerland, Honduras and Chile. They play the first game against Switzerland at the newly built 70,000 seater Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 16th June with kick-off at 4pm local time. Current odds see Spain at 1/16 to qualify as group H winners.

There is now also a range of World Cup bets available on the group stages of the competition, as well as the tournaments top goalscorer.

Brazilian star, Luis Fabiano is currently joint favourite for the golden boot at 10/1 with Spain's David Villa. Fernando Torres is next in the betting at 12/1, followed by Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, all available at 16/1.

Brazil and Ivory Coast are favourites to progress from Group G, the so-called 'group of death'. Brazil are available at 1/7, with Ivory Coast priced at 8/11.

England can be backed at 1/25 to qualify from Group C and at 5/1 to win the World Cup.
