StubHub FanStats(SM) - 2007 Top 25 College Football Rivalries

StubHub Tracks Popularity of Traditional Rivalries Based on Ticket Demand

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 17, 2007) - StubHub, the fans' ticket marketplace, opens Week 8 of arguably the craziest college football season ever with the return of its StubHub Top 25 Rivalry Rankings. While traditional rivalry week does not happen until late November, this week's college football slate sees three storied rivalries being renewed. USC-Notre Dame, Tennessee-Alabama and Florida State-Miami would normally be the biggest games of the season, but in 2007 these games are being overshadowed by new contenders, but are ticket prices and sales through the world's largest ticket marketplace reflecting that?

Once again, the list ranks the traditional college rivalry game tickets that are in highest demand by gross dollar volume of tickets sold through the StubHub ticket marketplace. As sales fluctuate due to pre-game hype and team performance, a new Top 25 list will be released every week until the conclusion of the regular season. An important component of the rankings, Average Ticket Price, can also reflect the difference in year over year demand for each game, an interesting stat with so many traditional powers having sub-par seasons.

For the week of 10/15, the storied USC-Notre Dame rivalry opens as the most sought after rivalry game ticket on StubHub. While the national significance of the game is not what it has been in the previous few seasons, Trojans and Fighting Irish fans are still spending an average of $426 per ticket to see the game in South Bend on Saturday. That's $50 more than was spent at last year's battle at the L.A. Coliseum, albeit a larger stadium capacity that greatly increased supply.

Following USC and Notre Dame is the recently played "Red River Rivalry" won by Oklahoma 28-21 on Oct. 6 which commanded a $400 average ticket price. And perhaps the most storied of all college football rivalries, Ohio State and Michigan currently sits at third overall with an average price just north of $400, but dramatically lower than last season's whopping $876 per ticket average.

Rankings are expected to change weekly based on the importance of each game and the overall performance of one or both teams. Once a game has been played it still may rank on the list based on the total sales activity for that game. For example, USC @ Notre Dame could outsell all other games this season and therefore rank number one many weeks after it has been played.
