Subaru Sponsors Debut of Gene DiNovi's Japanese Suite and The Subaru Suite

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 22, 2008) - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is delighted to announce its sponsorship of a special event to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Canada-Japan relations at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) in Toronto. On Friday, May 23, in front of a live audience, a stellar jazz trio made up of pianist Gene DiNovi, clarinetist James Campbell and bassist Dave Young will debut and record DiNovi's Japanese Suite...in Jazz as well as a work created especially for the occasion - The Subaru Suite.

Including original musical impressions of Japan as well as jazz interpretations of traditional Japanese melodies, the music expresses DiNovi's affinity, respect and affection for Japanese culture. It also reflects the history of the Nikkei community in Canada: their arrival, their internment during World War II, and their many contributions to Canada in the decades since the war. The performance will be recorded live at the event for release on CD.

"It is an honour and a pleasure for Subaru to be a part of this world premiere performance, as three of Canada's most talented and respected musicians help us celebrate the Japanese-Canadian experience," said Katsuhiro Yokoyama, president and CEO of SCI. "This cultural interaction is an important means of promoting mutual friendship and understanding, and we are all grateful to Gene DiNovi and the JCCC for helping join us together under the umbrella of music, something we can all enjoy regardless of our personal cultural history."

As an added treat, the trio will also perform classic jazz standards from DiNovi's new CD, "Brand New Morning," which will have its launch at this special event. The concert begins at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 23, in the JCCC's Kobayashi Hall. The JCCC is located at 8 Garamond Court in Toronto, near Eglinton Avenue East and Don Mills Road. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $30 for JCCC members.
