Suncor EVP Dave Byler recognized for personal and professional achievements

Calgary, Alberta (September 11, 2006) — Dave Byler, Suncor's executive vice president of natural gas and renewable energy, is the 2006 Management Alumni Excellence (MAX) Award recipient, an award given by the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business.

The award recognizes personal achievement and extraordinary service to the business school and to the community.

Born in Calgary, Byler prepared for a career in business by completing a bachelor of commerce degree at the University of Calgary. Since then, Byler has served as a member of the business school's Management Advisory Council, helped lead the Delivering Results fundraising campaign to raise more than $13 million, and is a dedicated participant in the MBA mentorship program.

"I'm very honoured to receive this award," said Byler. "My education and time with the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business has provided me with a solid foundation and helped me prepare for a successful career at Suncor."

Byler joined Suncor in 1979, beginning his career in the planning and economics area of exploration and production in Calgary. Before establishing himself in his current role, Byler had the opportunity to work in all segments of Suncor's business and gained a broad understanding of exploration, information technologies, finance, human resources and risk management.

Formerly Suncor's chief financial officer, Byler's current role requires him to provide leadership to Suncor's natural gas business, as well as building the renewable energy business. This business is engaged in the exploration, development and production of natural gas and renewable energy resources in North America.

Byler continues to contribute to Suncor's vision of sustainable energy, is the chair of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers' CEO Task Group on Climate Change, and an executive member of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA).

Byler will receive the 2006 MAX Award at a Gala Dinner celebration on November 23, 2006, at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary.
