Suncor Energy CEO Rick George inducted into Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame

Calgary, Alberta (September 19, 2008) - Suncor Energy president and CEO Rick George was among six new members inducted into the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame last night during a dinner event held in Edmonton.

The selection committee for the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame Society noted that George had transformed Suncor Energy from a struggling private entity into one of the most successful bitumen developers in Alberta's booming oil sands region since taking the helm of the company in the early 1990s. "His leadership in the areas of corporate and industry growth, community involvement and environmental responsibility is unmatched by his peers," wrote the committee.

"It is a great honour to have been selected and an accomplishment I share with every member of the Suncor team," said George. "Suncor would not be the successful, responsible oil sands developer it is today if it weren't for their hard work and dedication."

Every year, the Selection Committee of the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame — housed in the Petroleum Discovery Centre near the site of the famed Leduc No. 1 oil discovery at Devon — recommends a maximum of six individuals, including an industry pioneer, for induction.
