Suncor Energy Foundation steps up support for employee volunteerism

Calgary, Alberta (May 1, 2006) — Suncor Energy and its charitable foundation are expanding support for Suncor employees who volunteer in their communities by increasing the range of registered charities and non-profit organizations that are eligible for grants.

Previously, only employees and retirees who volunteered with registered charities could apply for a grant. Now, using funds available outside of the Suncor Energy Foundation, the program has expanded to include non-profit organizations, such as community associations and youth sports teams.

"Many of our employees are doing great work in their communities so it made sense to expand the program to better support their efforts," says Sue Lee, senior vice president, human resources and communications. "It's all part of our commitment as a sustainable energy company to give back to the communities in which we operate."

New elements to the program include:

  • providing financial support to charitable and non-profit organizations in recognition for the volunteer efforts and/or financial contributions made by our employees and retirees
  • a humanitarian and bereavement gift program
  • a matching gift program for post secondary institutions
  • an opportunity to utilize employment milestone service awards towards a donation to a charitable organization
