Suncor Energy Foundation supports MRI for Northern Lights Regional Health Centre

Fort McMurray, Alberta (May 2, 2006) - Suncor Energy Executive Vice President Steve Williams moved the Northern Lights Regional Health Foundation's fundraiser for an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) a little closer to the finish line today, when he announced a $250,000 donation from the Suncor Energy Foundation.

The Suncor Energy Foundation is in the fourth year of a 5-year, $1 million commitment to the Northern Lights Regional Health Foundation. The additional donation of $250,000 to the MRI brings the company's total donation to $1.25 million over five years.

"Suncor is proud to support the Health Foundation's fundraising efforts for equipment that has the potential to enhance the quality of health care for everyone in Wood Buffalo," said Williams as he helped launch the health foundation's Everyday Heroes campaign on the local radio station. "At Suncor, we pride ourselves in using the 'best available' technology. We believe the medical staff at the health centre and the citizens of this region deserve the same. By today's standards, access to MRI is a necessity for a hospital to offer best practices to its patients."

Although the Northern Lights Health Region is one of the fastest growing regions in Alberta, it has the only regional health center that does not provide a local MRI service for its residents. Currently, patients requiring MRI's must travel 450 kilometres to the nearest facility in Edmonton.

"Suncor is pleased to support the MRI fundraising campaign, and we encourage our employees and contractors to support the campaign in whatever way they can," added Williams.
