Suncor Energy announces Commerce City refinery back online

Denver, Colorado (February 21, 2007) — Suncor Energy (U.S.A.) Inc. announced today that the refinery is running at full production following a shutdown over the weekend.

On Sunday morning, the facility experienced a power interruption resulting in a shutdown of the west plant and the sour crude unit. With portions of the refinery offline, the refinery's production of finished products was reduced. The facility's east plant was not impacted by the power failure and continued normal operations.

There were no injuries and no equipment damage resulting from the shutdown. "With the refinery 100 percent back in operation as of yesterday, we are making and storing finished products," says Bill Buckalew, general manager, refining and pipelines. "The power interruption was unfortunate, but we were able to safely shutdown and start up the facility with no incidents."

Suncor is investigating the cause of the power interruption to the refinery's main substation.

Suncor Energy (U.S.A.) Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suncor Energy Inc., an integrated energy company based in Calgary, Canada. Suncor Energy U.S.A.'s business includes refining operations and retail sales in the Denver area under the Phillips 66® brand, and pipeline operations in Colorado and Wyoming.
