Suncor Energy begins planned maintenance activities at Sarnia refinery

Sarnia, Ontario (April 24, 2007) - Suncor Energy Products Inc. announced today the schedule for planned maintenance activities at the company's Sarnia refinery in 2007.

Maintenance on the refinery's alkylation and catcracker units is planned to begin April 25. This work is expected to be completed in June, including shutdown and start-up.

In addition, the refinery's hydrocracker unit is scheduled to be shut down for approximately eight weeks beginning in August to complete modifications designed to enable the refinery to process sour crude oil from the company's oil sands operation.

Suncor will focus on completing the maintenance work in a safe manner while minimizing any impacts on our neighbours, customers and the environment. Although this maintenance work may result in an increase in flaring, noise and traffic related to Suncor's operations, necessary precautions have been taken to ensure these disruptions are kept to a minimum.

These activities will result in partial outages of refinery equipment. Suncor has made the necessary supply preparations and expects all customer supply agreements will be met.  Portions of the refinery are planned to continue production through the various shutdown periods.

Suncor is committed to continuously improving its environmental, health and safety performance and to working to enhance the quality of life in the Sarnia-Lambton region.
