Suncor Energy completes maintenance activities at oil sands facility

Calgary, Alberta (December 29, 2008) — Suncor Energy Inc. reports that repair work to portions of its oil sands facilities following a minor fire are now complete. The fire occurred November 26 during start-up of a vacuum unit following completion of planned maintenance. There were no injuries and the fire was extinguished within minutes.

During the maintenance period, Suncor's oil sands facilities continued to operate at reduced rates. Production volumes for the month of December and full year 2008 are expected to be released in early January.
