Suncor Energy employees hit $1 million fundraising goal for United Way

Fort McMurray, Alberta (September 26, 2007) — In a concerted effort to give back to the community in which they work and live, local employees of Suncor Energy have topped their $1 million fundraising goal for 2007 in support of the United Way in Fort McMurray.
"Suncor and its employees have been supporting the local United Way for 25 years — but this is the first time we set our sights as high as $1 million," says Mike McDougall, Suncor's director of site-wide maintenance and co-chair of the campaign with CEP representative Dean Kelly. "This just confirms our collective desire to support agencies that we, as a community, rely on in times of success — and in times of need."

The Suncor campaign, which launched September 10 under the theme "Because We Live Here", ended this week. Events included a high-profile kick-off to the campaign, an e-auction and employee barbecues to increase awareness and thank employees for their generous payroll pledges. A range of special prizes, including a SMART car, were also tied to employee pledge amounts and will be drawn at the campaign wrap up on October 1.
