Suncor Energy manager co-chairs oil and gas advisory panel

Fort St. John, British Columbia (January 16, 2007) — Community concerns regarding oil and gas activity in northeastern British Columbia are being listened to and acted upon as a result of the recently established Northeast Energy and Mines Advisory Committee (NEEMAC).

The committee is a multi-stakeholder advisory group that provides a forum for dialogue between government, industry and the community. NEEMAC is working with the B.C. Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources to develop new tools to enable stakeholders to work more effectively with the oil and gas industry, including a guide to assist landowners in negotiating surface lease agreements. The committee is also helping landowners to navigate the Mediation and Arbitration Board (MAB) process.

Tracey Wolsey, Manager of Aboriginal Affairs and Stakeholder Relations for Suncor's Natural Gas & Renewable Energy division, is representing the oil and gas industry. Wolsey was named Co-Chair of NEEMAC along with fellow northeast British Columbia resident Gwen Johansson, who is representing the community.

"By identifying community concerns and potential solutions, the committee is helping us ensure that we are responding to issues in a way that balances the broad interests of all stakeholders," said Richard Neufeld, B.C. Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. "I would like to thank the committee for investing their time to work with my staff to create innovative solutions to address these concerns."
