Suncor Energy named as one of "10 Green Giants in Business"

Calgary, Alberta (March 22, 2007) — Suncor Energy was recently named to Fortune magazine's global list of ten corporations that go beyond what is required to operate in an environmentally responsible way. Alcan, Honda, Hewlett-Packard and Continental Airlines were among the other companies recognized.

Suncor was selected when Fortune solicited nominations from environmentalists and consultants who have worked with corporations. The magazine reviewed the list of nearly 100 nominees and focused on larger firms due to the importance of their environmental footprint. From that, they identified 10 companies that recognize the strategic value of environmentalism in their industries.

Fortune commented on Suncor's environmental and greenhouse gas management programs, its investigation of carbon capture techniques and its water management plans for a planned third upgrader.

"It is great to be recognized for our environmental work and stand among others who are committed to sustainability," said Gord Lambert, Suncor's vice president, sustainable development. "We've worked hard to get to where we are and we will continue our efforts as we grow our business."
