Suncor Energy named to 50 Most Responsible Corporations list

Jantzi Research and Maclean's magazine recognize Suncor for environmental and social responsibility

Calgary, Alberta (June 22, 2009) — Suncor today announced it has been named to the 2009 Jantzi/Maclean's list of the 50 Most Responsible Corporations in Canada. Compiled by Jantzi Research and published in this week's Maclean's magazine, the list profiles leading environmental, social and governance practices of Canada's most prominent corporations.

Suncor was recognized for its renewable energy operations, which includes four wind power projects and one of the largest ethanol plants in the country, as well as for the extent of its spending with Aboriginal businesses. The report also highlighted Suncor's research into technologies to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, and the life-cycle value assessments it has done to evaluate potential environmental, social and economic impact of major projects.

The recognition comes on the heels of the recent launch of Suncor's 7th biennial sustainability report, a web-based report in which the company provides information related to its environmental, social and economic performance.

Jantzi Research, an independent research firm, evaluated companies using more than 100 indicators of environmental, social and governance performance.
