Suncor Energy receives Generosity of Spirit philanthropy award

Calgary, Alberta (November 20, 2006) — Suncor Energy Inc. today received the Generosity of Spirit award for Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist as part of the National Philanthropy Day celebrations sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

The award was given at a luncheon held in Calgary capping off Philanthropy Awareness Week.

Suncor was nominated by Hull Child and Family Services, a Calgary-based charity dedicated to helping many of Calgary's most troubled children and families by providing services such as early intervention, prevention and intensive residential treatment.

"We are very honoured to receive this award and I am incredibly proud of the community spirit shown by our employees," said Sue Lee, senior vice president, human resources and communications. "However, the real credit goes to Hull for the work they do every day to improve the lives of Calgary youth and their families."

The Suncor Energy Foundation has partnered with Hull for more than a decade to provide financial support for a range of programs that help troubled kids and at-risk families. Suncor employees also volunteer regularly for Hull events such as the Breakfast Club, and a number of Hull's young people have completed work experience at Suncor's Calgary office.

"Any time we can connect people in these ways, Suncor benefits," said Lee. "And we hope it's a two-way street."
