Suncor Energy receives sustainability award from Mining Association of Canada

Calgary, Alberta, Canada (Aug. 30, 2007) — Suncor Energy has received a sustainability award from the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) for high standards of performance in community engagement and communication.

The award recognizes what MAC refers to as "external outreach", which includes Suncor's efforts in such areas as stakeholder relations, community media relations and crisis communications. The award was made following third party verification of Suncor's own assessment of its sustainability performance.
"We're proud to be recognized for Suncor's continued focus on excellence in communication with our stakeholders," said Sue Lee, senior vice president of human resources and communications.

This is the fourth year for MAC's sustainability initiative — aimed at helping the Canadian mining industry improve its performance by setting performance standards in key areas — but the first year for third party verification of member performances and for the awards program.

The Mining Association of Canada is a national organization of the Canadian mining industry. Member companies are engaged in mineral exploration, mining, smelting, refining and semi-fabrication.
