Suncor Energy supports Colorado tornado relief efforts

Denver, Colorado (May 23, 2008) Suncor Energy announced today it will make a $25,000 contribution to the Northern Colorado chapter of the Red Cross in support of tornado recovery efforts. Additionally, employee and contractor donations up to $5,000 will be matched by the company through its humanitarian relief program.

On May 22, several tornados caused significant damage to some areas north of Denver, Colorado and into Wyoming. The largest tornado caused severe damage to homes, businesses, farms, rail cars, and other personal property. Governor Bill Ritter declared a state of emergency for Weld County and activated the Colorado National Guard to assist the communities and victims of the storms.

"We value our relationships with all of our customers, business partners, and the communities that we serve, and we're pleased to be able to assist in this time of need," said Steve Douglas, general manager, supply and marketing for Suncor.

Suncor employees and customers who live in the areas near the storms were not harmed. The company experienced only minor operational disruptions. A power outage at its pipeline station at Bracewell, just east of Windsor, did not impact crude throughput to the refinery. As a precaution Suncor also shut down the Ault County pumping station north of Windsor, but continued to supply crude via the Cheyenne pump station.

Once power was stabilized the Ault station was restored to normal operations. The Cheyenne station experienced some problems when severe weather moved into that area and had to shut down some deliveries. Suncor facilities were at normal operations this morning.
