Suncor Energy wins Globe Award for Corporate Competitiveness

Vancouver, British Columbia (April 3, 2006) — Suncor Energy Inc. received the prestigious Corporate Competitiveness Award from the Globe Foundation at its 2006 conference on business and the environment held in Vancouver last week. The award recognizes a corporation with a proven record of environmental stewardship that has materially contributed to economic competitiveness through a commitment to environmental excellence.

Gord Lambert, Suncor's vice president of Sustainable Development accepted the award for Suncor. "This honour means a lot to our organization because it recognizes that we are making real progress on our journey toward sustainable development," he said.

The award was based on judging six criteria including: a track record of environmental and economic performance, CEO leadership and excellence in measuring and reporting environmental progress.

The Globe Awards are considered the most recognized national awards of their kind. They are presented annually to companies and industry groups who balance competitive business strategies and sustainable development.
