Suncor and its employees contribute $2.7 million to 2007 United Way campaigns

Calgary, Alberta (October 15, 2007) — Suncor Energy employees and retirees in Canada and the U.S., with the support of the Suncor Energy Foundation, contributed $2.7 million to 2007 United Way campaigns in the communities where Suncor operates. 

The total included a record $1.2 million in contributions at Suncor's oil sands facility to the United Way of Fort McMurray.

"The United Way plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life in our communities," said Rick George, Suncor's president and chief executive officer. "This year's United Way results reflect the genuine desire of our employees and retirees to give back in a meaningful way."

Fundraising and awareness activities during September and October included online auctions in Sarnia and Calgary, an annual hockey tournament against Syncrude in Fort McMurray, a James Bond themed campaign in Toronto, and an adopt-an-agency initiative in Denver.

Suncor Energy is an integrated energy company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. Suncor's oil sands business, located near Fort McMurray, Alberta, extracts and upgrades oil sands and markets refinery feedstock and diesel fuel, while operations throughout Western Canada produce natural gas. The Suncor Energy Foundation is a private, non-profit charitable foundation established by Suncor to receive Suncor's contributions and support registered Canadian charitable organizations. As an 'Imagine Caring Company,' Suncor invests at least one per cent of average domestic pre-tax profits to charitable and non-profit causes each year.
