Suncor included on Dow Jones Sustainability Index for eighth year

Calgary, Alberta (September 8, 2006) — Suncor Energy Inc. has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the eighth consecutive year.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide based on a review of economic, social and environmental criteria. Suncor is one of only 20 Canadian companies named to the 2006 list and one of 13 worldwide oil and gas companies.

"Inclusion on the DJSI is an important benchmark for Suncor." said Gordon Lambert, Suncor's vice president of sustainable development. "It provides our stakeholders with an independent assessment of our sustainability efforts and demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainability."

Suncor has also been named to the FTSE4Good Global Index for the sixth consecutive year. This index, produced by the UK-based FTSE Group, features companies that meet globally recognized corporate social responsibility standards.

Also, Jantzi Research, a provider of social and environmental research for institutional investors, recently ranked Suncor second on its list of 23 worldwide oil and gas companies. Suncor was singled out for its investments in renewable energy, action on managing greenhouse gases and implementation of environmental management systems.
