Suncor temporarily closes one of three contract worker residences

Fort McMurray, AB (February 12, 2007) -- Suncor Energy Inc. reported today that its Borealis Lodge, one of three contract worker residences at the company's oil sands operation, has temporarily closed due to an interruption in water supply.

The camp, which normally houses approximately 1,500 temporary workers, has been without water since Friday, February 9 due to a damaged water line. Repair to the line is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

The Borealis Lodge closure primarily affects contractors working on Suncor's Millennium Coker Unit expansion. As a result of the closure, Tuesday's shifts have been cancelled for these workers and they are expected return to work on Wednesday. Those camp residents who were already at the lodge will be relocated to other local camps until the water issue is resolved.

The neighbouring Millennium Lodge and worker residences at Suncor's Firebag project are not affected by this closure. Suncor's regular operational workforce and day-to-day operations are also unaffected.

This news release contains forward-looking statements that address goals, expectations or projections about the future.
