Sunridge Gold Announces Gupo Gold Drill Results-Confirms Open-Pit Potential

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 15, 2007) - Sunridge Gold Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGC) announces assay results from a drilling program on the Gupo Gold deposit (formerly referred to as Adi Nefas Doop Gold Deposit) within the Asmara Project Eritrea. This twenty-six hole program was designed to verify and expand on the drilling of another company, La Source, completed in the mid 1990's. Based on the La Source results the Company has estimated a NI 43-101 compliant inferred resource of 1,965,000 tonnes at an average grade of 2.99 g/t gold containing 189,000 ounces of gold. The drill results reported from holes GG-001-RD to GG-020-RD confirm the continuity of the near surface gold zone and open-pit potential of Gupo, particularly as it is close to the Adi Nefas zinc/gold/copper and the Emba Derho zinc/copper/gold VMS deposits (see attached map) and could therefore serve as additional resources for future mining operations

DRILL HIGHLIGHTS:

GG-001-RD - 38.50 metres grading 2.12 g/t gold

GG-008-D - 59.00 metres grading 1.52 including 24 metres grading 3.11 g/t gold

GG-013-RD - 23.00 metres grading 1.12 g/t gold

GG-015-RD - 50.00 metres grading 1.35 g/t gold

Notes to Table

Drill holes not included in the above table contained no significant
values.
(i) Results of these holes were previously released on
January 19, 2005 (SGCNR 2005-3).
(ii) Results of these holes were previously released on
March 16, 2005 (SGCNR 2005-5).

The location of these new drill holes in relationship to the past drilling can be seen on the attached map. The majority of the gold mineralization at Gupo occurs in two zones; a northern zone with a strike length of approximately 700 metres and a southern zone with a strike length of approximately 500 metres. The recent drilling program at Gupo was concentrated in these two zones which are separated by a 900 long zone of weak gold mineralization. Drill holes GG-006-RD and GG-007-RD were designed to test for a southern extension of known mineralization but only narrow zones of mineralization were found in these holes. Results from the balance of the drilling program are pending and will be released when received.

EXPLORATION PROGRAM UPDATE:

Sunridge Gold is awaiting assay results for drill holes ED-076 to ED-102 from the 2006 drill program at Emba Derho and assay results from the initial seven holes from the new Kodadu target. These results will be released as available. Drilling in 2007 is planned for Emba Derho, Kodadu, Adi Nefas main and several new targets generated by the ongoing property wide ground gravity survey including Adi Mousa, Adi Rassi and Shiketi.

Notes:

1. Drill intercept lengths only are reported as there is insufficient information to estimate true width.

2. Drill Holes designations ending in "D" are diamond drill holes, those ending with "R" and reverse-circulation drill holes and those ending in "RD" have been started with reverse-circulation and completed with diamond drilling.

3. A Quality Assurance/Quality Control program is part of the drilling program on the Asmara Project. This program includes chain of custody protocol as well as systematic submittals of standards, duplicates and blank samples into the flow of samples produced by the drilling.

4. A description of the geology, sampling procedures, and the Company's laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures are as described in the Company's National Instrument 43-101 Technical Report filed on February 17, 2004 and amended by the Amended Technical Report filed dated April 27, 2004. This report is available at www.sedar.com.

5. Samples are prepared at African Horn Testing Services (Eritrea) and analyzed at Genalysis Laboratories (a NATA registered laboratory) in Perth Western Australia.

6. The Qualified Person for the release of this exploration information is Michael Hopley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sunridge Gold Corp.
