Sunsail Announces New Yacht Charter Base in Mediterranean

Opening 2010 in Procida, Bay of Naples, Italy

CLEARWATER, FL--(Marketwire - November 20, 2009) - Sunsail Sailing Vacations, the company for sailors by sailors, is continuing its Mediterranean expansion with a new base in Procida, Italy that will open for the 2010 sailing season. As the smallest, oldest island in the heart of the Bay of Naples, Procida is the perfect beginning to an authentic Italian sailing vacation!

Procida offers an idyllic surrounding for charters across the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Pontine Islands or Amalfi Coast. Cheryl Powell, Sunsail's chief operating officer remarked, "Procida is an excellent complement to our Tropea and Palermo bases in southern Italy. With a mild climate and excellent cruising grounds, Procida itineraries include short passages through protected waters or exhilarating open-water sailing to more remote islands, suiting novice and skilled sailors alike."

Within 50 miles of Italy's west coast and an hour south of Rome, the secluded archipelago of the Pontine Islands has remained a pristine, relatively unknown destination. These islands offer distinct coastlines highlighted by vibrant rock outcrops, attractive villages, small Mediterranean ports and clear waters for snorkeling or diving. The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is another renowned destination with a magnificent mountainous coastline, scenic beauty and picturesque towns. To fully experience Procida's charm, cruisers should consider taking a week or more to explore by both land and sea.

This Sunsail base, which serves as the island's primary marina, occupies a privileged position in Procida's historic center and is adjacent to a commercial port, enabling easy ferry and hydrofoil transport to/from Naples.

Offering bareboat and skippered charters, sailors departing from Procida can choose from a variety of fully-outfitted yachts between 39' to 50', including the new Sunsail 384 catamaran. In addition to hotel accommodation, the marina provides showers, electric power, laundry facilities, a bank, restaurants, supermarket, and a fueling station, amongst other amenities. During the summer, it also plays host to various weekend festivals.
