SupportSoft Joins ENERGY STAR® Million Monitor Drive

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - October 12, 2007) - SupportSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPRT) joined the ENERGY STAR ® Million Monitor Drive today, a national campaign to activate monitor power management features on one million U.S. computer monitors annually. SupportSoft pledged to activate monitor "sleep" features on company computers, starting with those at corporate headquarters.

"ENERGY STAR is happy to recognize SupportSoft for its commitment to saving energy and protecting the environment," said Steve Ryan, EPA Program Manager. "If every business in the United States followed SupportSoft's example, the nation would save more than 5.5 billion kWh of electricity. The reduction in air pollution would be roughly equivalent to removing 600,000 cars from the road."

Energy wasted by glowing idle computer monitors costs offices across the country about $500 million a year. However, monitor power management features -- standard in most operating systems -- save energy, money, and help prevent pollution by placing monitors into a low-power sleep mode during periods of inactivity. A simple touch of the mouse or keyboard "wakes up" monitors within seconds.

This modest change can save SupportSoft more than 20,000 kWh over the next year, or enough electricity to light 10 U.S. homes. And, because reduced energy generation means less pollution, SupportSoft is also helping the environment. Computers are only used an average of four hours each business day, but continue to consume energy even when idle. Much of the energy used by computers and monitors is wasted because approximately 65 percent of computers and monitors in the U.S. are left on at night and roughly 28 percent of monitors are not enabled for power management.
