Survey Finds Enterprise Deployment of Mobile Applications Extends Beyond m-Commerce

New Survey Results Show Enterprises Have Deployed Mobile Devices Throughout the Company to Increase Employee Productivity and Responsiveness

  • Sterling Commerce®, an AT&T Inc (NYSE: T) company, today announced the results of an enterprise survey focusing on the use and measurement strategies for various mobile applications.
  • The survey focused on mobility decision-makers in enterprises with corporate headquarters in the US, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany and the UK. It looked at enterprises in the communications/media, distribution/logistics, financial services/banking/insurance, manufacturing and retail industries.
  • Commissioned by Sterling Commerce and conducted by Forrester Consulting, the survey highlights the deployments of mobile applications beyond m-commerce and the factors driving those deployments.

Survey Results:

  • A majority of respondents believe that mobile application deployment is critical to long-term corporate success.
  • Between 86 percent and 90 percent of respondents identified increasing worker productivity and responsiveness as two key factors for deploying mobile applications.
  • Resolving customer service issues faster and improving customer satisfaction ratings were also included as key factors for deployment.
  • Nearly 95 percent of respondents are deploying mobile devices for executive management and IT professionals; 84 to 87 percent of enterprises are deploying mobile devices for sales professionals or administrative professionals; 75 percent provide mobile devices to field service personnel and 60 to 65 percent of enterprises deploy mobile devices for employees in supply chain, building security or customer service functions.
  • Across the industries, the top application deployed varies:
    • 39 percent of distribution and logistics companies have deployed field service and field sales professional applications and transportation and shipping management applications.
    • 44 percent of manufacturing companies and 35 percent of financial services companies are deploying field service and field sales professional applications.
    • 48 percent of media and communications firms are deploying order tracking, management and fulfillment mobile applications and 46 percent use mobile field service or field sales applications.
    • 53 percent of retail companies are deploying warehouse and logistics management applications.
