Survey Identifies Manual Intervention as Top Barrier to IT Processing Performance

BELLEVUE, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 6, 2006 --A recent survey of more than 110 information systems and technology managers identified manual intervention as the top barrier to enterprise IT efficiency. The survey, which polled a diverse group of attendees from Oracle® OpenWorld 2006, shows human error and manual process management as the main contributors to IT inefficiency -- accounting for 50 percent of all responses. Lack of application integration and custom script maintenance follow, receiving 17 percent and 13 percent of the vote, respectively.

Other findings of the survey, conducted by AppWorx Corporation, show that a dependency on human intervention and the heavy manual component of business application operation leaves IT staff walking a fine line between systems management and business process management. Forty-nine percent of those polled report spending the majority of their time managing routine system-level tasks rather than mission-critical business application processes.

According to respondents, problems in IT processing environments are most commonly due to complex application integrations, poor data integrity, bottlenecks during peak processing periods and a lack of centralized process control -- totaling nearly 60 percent of all votes. Application process automation tools are specifically designed to address these problems, yet only 11 percent of respondents have plans to research or implement such a tool.
