"Swim Quick" - Swimmers' Heartfelt Tribute to Olympic Coach Richard Quick

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - February 3, 2010) - On Valentine's Day Weekend, 2010, Swim Across America [SAA] is hosting the second annual "Swim Quick" fundraising event as a tribute to legendary Olympic coach, Richard Quick. Richard passed away from an inoperable brain tumor in June of 2009, but spent his final months making "Swim Quick" a success in its first year. This year, once again, swimmers all over the world will jump into a local pool on Valentine's Day Weekend to honor loved ones who are or have been affected by cancer. They will also contribute to the Swim Across America Richard Quick Endowment, supporting Swim Across America in its continuing effort to find a cure for cancer.

"Swim Quick" was created to bring the world together in support of a dear friend and an unparalleled Coach. It will carry on year after year as an opportunity for people to swim in honor of their loved ones. In 2009, the program included thousands of swimmers from four continents, raised over $80,000 for cancer research, prevention and treatment and was featured on the "Today Show," Fox News, MSNBC and in Sports Illustrated. World-renowned Olympians including Rowdy Gaines, Jenny Thompson, Jill Sterkel and Dana Kirk all participated in honor of Richard.

"Swim Quick was the most inspirational event for my dad. He was glowing all weekend and genuinely felt the love behind all the swimmers. The Quick family is blessed to have Swim Across America leading this effort again this year in my father's memory," said Kathy Quick Brown, Richard's daughter.

Richard Quick is remembered for his unparalleled coaching achievements. He has coached six US Olympic Swimming Teams, led his collegiate teams to 12 NCAA titles, led the swimming community with respect and integrity, and inspired every swimmer he has coached. He was the head coach of Auburn University when he passed away.
