Swinton Motorbikes Issues Warning As Roads Go to Pot

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 27, 2010) - Thousands of new potholes across the UK's roads are wreaking havoc for motorcyclists, warns Swinton Bikes.

Recent Arctic conditions have caused damage to hundreds of roads across the country with estimates of one new pothole for every 100 yards of road.

Swinton, one of the UK's leading high street retailers of motorbike insurance is warning drivers that potholed roles could cause punctures and damage to a bike's suspension.

Potholes are caused by water in surface cracks freezing and then expanding as temperatures plummet, causing road surfaces to break up.

Anthony Aronin, Head of Swinton Bikes said, "Potholes pose a greater hazard to motorcyclists than to any other road-user. Bikers rely on road condition more than car drivers, as uneven surfaces can be felt directly by the rider when steering and cornering. Hitting a pothole can mean a biker will lose control of their motorbike.

"The huge increase in potholes resulting from the recent big freeze are a massive concern at the moment. Riders need to be extra vigilant to avoid any unnecessary motorcycle insurance claims."
