Sygate and Aventail Expand Technology Partnership

Sygate On-Demand Technology and Aventail's Smart SSL VPN Provide Industry's Strongest Data Protection and Granular Access Control for Remote Application Access

SEATTLE, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 30, 2005 -- Sygate Technologies, the industry's leading Network Access Control (NAC) company, and SSL VPN technology leader Aventail are expanding their technology partnership. Under the new two-year deal, Aventail is licensing all components of Sygate On-Demand Agent (SODA), allowing Aventail to integrate the full functionality of the technology with its SSL VPN appliance. The two companies initially forged a partnership in 2003 and have engaged in ongoing joint testing and development.

"Aventail is and will remain a key strategic partner for Sygate, and we look forward to continuing to help them lead the secure remote access market by providing the highest level of security and control for their customers," said John De Santis, CEO, Sygate Technologies.

Sygate technology is the foundation for Aventail Secure Desktop, an encrypted virtual desktop, and Aventail Cache Control, which removes all cached data from the session. While Sygate works with several SSL VPNs, Aventail is the only one to integrate the Sygate On-Demand technology with its interrogation engine and policy. With Aventail technology, the secure desktop is dynamically deployed based on the requirements of the end user and security of the end point and only when needed in order to maximize productivity. With all other SSL VPNs on the market, the Sygate secure desktop is separate from policy and the security posture of the device and, therefore, deployed whether it is needed or not.

Under the new deal, Aventail will have the opportunity to integrate other key components in the Sygate On-Demand Agent portfolio and will be working more closely with Sygate during both companies' product development cycles. In addition, Aventail will be able to integrate Sygate's localized versions of SODA with Aventail's localized versions of its SSL VPN. Aventail recently launched new versions of its SSL VPN solutions, localized for the Japan and Korean markets.

"We are committed to the closer integration of Sygate's technology into our SSL VPN, which fits in perfectly with our overall End Point Control initiative," said Evan Kaplan, CEO, Aventail Corp. "In addition, we look forward to the opportunity of working with Sygate and Symantec in the future."

Aventail Secure Desktop (ASD) creates a virtual desktop environment, which looks and feels like a regular desktop, but is actually an "encrypted vault." All the user's local data are encrypted in real time, and at the end of the session, all data is destroyed to U.S. Department of Defense standards. In addition to deleting downloaded or new files, ASD ensures that the entire session is encrypted.

The Sygate-Aventail deal is not affected by the pending Sygate acquisition by Symantec.
