BBC Worldwide Canada Signs First Content Deal with Sympatico.ca

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2009) - BBC Worldwide, Canada today announced the beginning of a new partnership with Sympatico.ca to offer new and archived short form BBC content. The first such deal to be signed by BBC Worldwide with a Canadian-based online portal, Worldwide's newly formed digital team brings hundreds of short form clips to the Canadian audience including the International Emmy-winning car series Top Gear as well as acclaimed cookery, travel, comedy, factual and pet programs. All new streamed video content will be available on Sympatico.ca starting from December 30th.

The deal was brokered by Peter Hill, BBC Worldwide, Canada who recently joined the company as Sales Manager, Digital Media and Veronica Holmes at Sympatico.ca.

Under the deal, current and archived short form clips from the BBC will include:



- Car entertainment programmes Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld,
Clarkson's Car Years, and Jeremy Clarkson's Extreme Machines
- Cookery programmes In Search Of Perfection (featuring celebrated chef
Heston Blumenthal), Rick Stein's Mediterranean Escape, Hairy Bikers'
Cookbook and Hairy Bikers Ride Again, Indian Food Made Easy, Ken Hom's
Chinese Cookery and Ainsley's Gourmet Express
- Travel programmes Michael Palin's New Europe, Himalaya with Michael
Palin and Full Circle with Michael Palin
- Comedy programmes The Catherine Tate Show and Dead Ringers
- Pets programme Barking Mad


The deal represents a further move by BBC Worldwide, Canada, the BBC's commercial arm, to increase their digital business by expanding the local team in Toronto and securing new BBC programming availabilities on digital platforms, including the successful launch of BBC content on the iTunes Store in Canada this past July.
