Synodon Adds Methane to realSens™ Gas Sensing Capability

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 28, 2008) - Synodon Inc. ("Synodon") (TSX VENTURE:SYD), is pleased to announce that its realSens™ airborne gas sensing technology now has the added ability of detecting methane, complementing its already demonstrated ethane capability. Leveraging off of its platform technology investment, no changes are required to the instrument, deployment process or data analysis so the same realSens™ instrument allows for the measurement of ethane or methane interchangeably. Airborne field demonstrations for the methane configuration are planned for this summer.

Methane makes up roughly 8.5% of all the greenhouse gas ("GHG") emissions in North America, for a total of 665 Mt CO2 eq (nearly as much as Canada's entire GHG output in a year). The main sources of these emissions are waste management (30%), agriculture (28%) and the energy industry (36%). The methane version of realSens™ could be used to gather information about the source, location and intensity of these emissions, information which in turn could be used to prioritize and focus the mitigation activities in each of these industries.

Mr. Adrian Banica, CEO of Synodon said "Extending our capability to measure methane directly is very important since it will allow Synodon to quantify emissions of this potent greenhouse gas from sources that are not related to the hydrocarbon industry and hence will not contain any ethane. It also demonstrates the leveragability of this platform technology to remotely sense multiple gases, which now opens up new markets and revenue opportunities well beyond the oil and gas applications currently targeted".

Ethane was chosen as the target gas for measuring emissions from the hydrocarbon industry since it will help differentiate from natural sources of methane and eliminate false indications of leaks. Ethane represents about 2 - 5% of natural gas but has no natural sources.

The demonstration of the realSens technology is supported in part by Sustainable Development Technology Canada, an arms-length not-for-profit corporation created by the Government of Canada. Natural Resources Canada and other Government of Canada initiatives have also provided financial support.

Synodon Inc. ( is an Edmonton based technology company which has developed and demonstrated an advanced airborne remote gas sensing system called realSens™, based on technologies developed under the Canadian Space Program and by Synodon scientists. The company will provide gas emissions monitoring and quantification services to a variety of industries, including hydrocarbon (oil and gas), environmental, agricultural and for a variety of gases including methane, ethane and ammonia. The initial focus is on the hydrocarbon industry and in particular the natural gas pipeline sector.
