TASERS: SAFETY TESTING INSTRUMENTATION NOW AVAILABLE TO POLICE

Richmond BC Company Files Patent for Taser Test Device: Makes Measuring Safety of Tasers Easy and Affordable for any Police Service

Attention: Business/Financial Editor, Health/Medical Editor, News Editor, Science Editor, Tech/Telecomm Editor RICHMOND, BC, MEDIA ADVISORY ON TASER TESTING--(Marketwire - Sept. 3, 2009) - The recent Braidwood Inquiry(1) recommended periodic testing of Conducted Energy Weapons (Tasers) to ensure they are safe. Currently, the only test option is to send Tasers to a contract test facility. Datrend Systems Inc., a Richmond BC company, has filed a patent for a test device which will allow individual police services to test and monitor the performance of Tasers on a schedule which will improve the confidence level that performance criteria are continuously being met.

"The electrical output from a Taser has many similarities to the output of medical devices, such as a defibrillator or an electrosurgical generator. It is common practice in North American healthcare systems to have an ongoing performance assurance program, a concept which can readily be applied to Tasers. Datrend has leveraged its years of experience with medical devices to develop a Taser tester which is easy to operate and provides capabilities for storing performance records. This will provide a police service with an economical option to produce an independent, unbiased record of the performance status of their Tasers on an ongoing basis", stated Ron Evans, President of Datrend Systems Inc., a leading supplier of biomedical test instruments worldwide.

TAZRTest® is expected to be available the first quarter of 2010.
