A Tax-Filing Season Reminder from Minister Ashfield: My Payment is Here to Save You Time

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 9, 2010) - The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, would like to remind Canadians that My Payment, a new online service offered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), helps to simplify the process of making a payment at tax time.

"As Canadians hear about the My Payment option, more and more people are taking advantage of this service." said Minister Ashfield. "My Payment's success speaks to the Canada Revenue Agency's ability to deliver online tools that ease the tax compliance burden for Canadians. Taxpayers and businesses are making the choice to remit payments through this self-serve option because it's convenient, safe, and easy to use."

The My Payment service was launched in October 2009. The number of payments made using My Payment has increased by an average of 41% each month since its launch.

My Payment is made possible using Interac® Online and is currently available to individuals and businesses that have accounts with the following Canadian financial institutions: BMO Bank of Montreal (personal accounts only), Scotiabank, TD Canada Trust, and RBC Royal Bank. The CRA continues to work with the financial community to increase the number of participating financial institutions.

Payments made on a business day using My Payment are recognized by the CRA as having been made on the same business day. Payments that are not made on a business day, such as on the weekend, will be recognized on the following business day.
