Taxpayers' Ombudsman Continues National Outreach Tour in Victoria

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 4, 2010) - Mr. J. Paul Dube, Canada's Taxpayers' Ombudsman, arrived in Victoria last night on a national outreach tour.

The objective of this tour is to promote the Taxpayer Bill of Rights and remind Canadians that they now have someone independent and impartial to review their unresolved service complaints about the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

"As Taxpayers' Ombudsman, I am committed to my role of promoting professional service and fair treatment by the CRA, in accordance with the Taxpayer Bill of Rights" said Mr. Dube, speaking to the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) of British Columbia in Vancouver at a recent stop on the tour.

During this trip, the Ombudsman will meet with local tax professionals and visit the CRA's Vancouver Island Tax Services Office.

The tour provides stakeholders an opportunity to discuss issues of service and fairness with the Ombudsman. "I look forward to working with taxpayers and the CRA in order to resolve conflicts and improve service," said Mr. Dube.

Mr. Dube released his first annual report on December 17, 2009, and will be submitting special reports on systemic issues to the Minister of National Revenue this year.
