Teachers Now Targets of Campaign to Delegitimize Israel

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 9, 2009) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies is urging educators to be wary of a conference taking place next weekend in Toronto. The Center is concerned by the trend for Apartheid agitators to target the education community in their partial and biased representation of the truth on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. A series of conferences, billed under the title "Freedom of Speech Freedom to Teach", is aimed at elementary, secondary and post-secondary educators and has little to do with free speech.

"Based on our research and knowledge of the speakers and organizers, this event is likely to have little to do with free speech, but rather more to do with a broader attack against Israel and its basic rights," said Avi Benlolo, president and CEO of FSWC. "With the growing progression of anti-Israel sentiments, we feel the sole objective of these conferences is to contribute to sowing hate and intolerance for Israel among the education community."

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center will be bringing this issue to the attention of Directors of Education at all Ontario School Boards as part of its ongoing commitment to promote tolerance and understanding in our schools.
