Teaching Tomorrow's Pharmacologists? Why Medical and Physiology Schools Are Moving to PowerLab LabTutor Systems

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--(Marketwire - January 15, 2008) - ADInstruments has released five pharmacology teaching experiments for use with their innovative education software, LabTutor, and PowerLab data acquisition systems. The experiments enable students to complete isolated tissue practicals right from the start of their pharmacology education.

LabTutor software embeds experiment protocols, real-time data acquisition channels, analysis exercises and laboratory reports into an internet browser interface. To ensure that students can work as independently as possible, LabTutor experiments include diagrams, images and text instructions. Every page contains a link to background information to explain the underlying scientific theory. In addition, every experiment features real-time acquisition of data and ends with a comprehensive report where students must present, explain and analyze their data.

The new pharmacology experiments lead students through tissue preparation, setting up and using an organ bath, and correct transducer positioning. Students observe, record and analyze the tissue's response to a range of pharmacological and electrical interventions.

The LabTutor pharmacology experiments are: Drugs Affecting the Chick Biventer Cervicis, Drugs Affecting the Guinea Pig Atria, Drugs Affecting the Stimulated Ileum, Drugs Affecting the Unstimulated Ileum and Drugs Affecting the Mammalian Uterus.

This latest release further expands LabTutor's collection of over 40 experiments, including human physiology, exercise physiology, animal physiology and general biology experiments. Since its 2005 release, LabTutor has enhanced life science curriculums in some of the world's best education institutions. In response to international demand, ADInstruments has translated LabTutor experiments into Chinese, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
