Ted's Montana Grill Completes Zero Grams Trans Fat Menu

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - September 25, 2007) - Ted's Montana Grill announced today that its entire menu is now trans fat free. With 51 Ted's Montana Grill restaurants in 18 states, Ted's Montana Grill is one of the first full-service restaurant companies to offer a completely zero trans fat menu.

"Consumers are increasingly more aware of the threat trans fats pose to our health," says Randy McAdoo, director of purchasing for Ted's Montana Grill. "We've gone through extensive testing to make sure all of our recipes and ingredients address this issue and still remain flavorful and delicious."

The Ted's research and development team completed eight months of testing to ensure that food quality and taste would not be impacted. For example, 10 different cooking oils were tested before one was selected. The company now uses Hi-Oleic canola oil instead of the traditional partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. In all, about six menu items or ingredients changed, including grilled mushrooms, butter for buns and lemon butter for steaks.

Ted's completed an oil switch to a 100 percent trans fat-free soybean oil for its fried foods -- onion rings, French fries and fried fish -- about a year ago. A third-party company evaluated each change and several menu items also underwent consumer testing.

"It's time for full-service restaurants, not just quick service, to eliminate trans fats. Diners shouldn't have to choose between delicious food and healthy food," McAdoo adds.

New menus printed with the zero grams trans fat message will be in the restaurants in October. Full nutritional information is available on the new Ted's Montana Grill Web Site --

Based in Atlanta, Ted's Montana Grill was co-founded by media entrepreneur and environmentalist Ted Turner and award-winning restaurateur George McKerrow Jr. Driven by the common goal to preserve the American Bison, Turner and McKerrow created this Classic American Grill concept in 2002 and today there are more than 50 restaurants nationwide. Each restaurant harks back to a turn-of-the-century Montana grill and bar, serving fresh-made dishes in a warm setting of casual luxury. The company's deep commitment to the environment is evident in nearly every aspect of operations from its use of recycled paper, paper straws and recycling efforts to low-voltage lighting being installed in all its restaurants.
